NPC Concrete, a unit within the NPC group of companies, announces the opening of its ready-mixed concrete plant in Tinley Manor on the North Coast. Since mid 2004, NPC Concrete has grown from two plants in Southern KZN to five ready-mix plants, two of which are in the Greater Durban area.

NPC Concrete Managing Director Avi Bhoora says, “We have positioned our new plant to serve the North Coast construction industry as well as regional infrastructural development. Because our Tinley Manor plant is a wet batch ready-mix operation, we are bringing a product of note to the region. Wet batched concrete is mixed in the plant itself so it does not rely on the traditional method of mixing of separate ingredients in the drum of the delivery truck. Mathematically, this means that with wet batched concrete the standard deviation can be expected to be much, much lower, indicating that the materials are more accurately batched and mixed. More accurate mixing also reduces wastage.”

Another advantage enjoyed by wet batched concrete plants is the production speed of which they are capable. The Tinley Manor plant is expected to produce up to 80 cubic metres of ready-mix an hour in peak periods. The plant is situated next to the Tinley Manor station about 4 kilometres from the Tinley Manor Beach off-ramp from the N2, and about 15 minutes from Ballito.
