Servicing the South Coast’s construction needs takes more than just an ample supply of building materials. This is especially the case with concrete, where quality control and a professional adherence to SABS requirements are vital. NPC Concrete, headquartered at the Margate Quarry, firmly believes in this and has planned their operation accordingly. In fact, NPC’s ready-mix batching plants were recently given a perfect accreditation score by the South African Ready-Mix Association (SARMA), the national body which represents all the reputable ready-mix companies in southern Africa. This involved passing SARMA’s stringent requirements and standards regarding environmental, safety and quality issues.
NPC Concrete’s Managing Director Avi Bhoora heralds this achievement as a group effort. “Our diligent management and team worked very closely with NPC’s respected concrete technologist Rolf Schutte to achieve this outstanding accreditation. The result is clearly good news for builders and contractors on the South Coast. They know they can expect top product quality and high service standards. And we will strive to maintain and expand on this in the future.”
In addition, NPC has invested in a wet-batching concrete system for their Margate plant. Also known as central mixed or pre-mixed concrete, the differentiating factor from normal ready-mix is that the concrete goes into the delivery trucks “wet”, i.e. already mixed with all ingredients including water. NPC’s Rolf Schutte says, “With wet batched concrete the standard deviation can be expected to be much lower which means that the materials are more accurately batched and mixed. In the mix design process one can more accurately target the desired strength (MPa), while reducing wastage.”
NPC’s ready-mix concrete is guaranteed to be up to strength and they have a substantial fleet of mixer trucks constantly on-call to service the South Coast’s concrete requirements.
