Margate home to concrete-making specialist team

What is the best concrete for the job?  Concrete construction projects range from slabs, foundations and pillars to carefully engineered upper floors and reservoirs.  The common requirement for every project is the need for a suitable concrete mixture which will cure well and test at the specified MPa.

Most contractors appreciate the input of an experienced specialist when the time comes to order ready-mixed concrete.  How many cubes will actually be needed?  Is the nature of the job such that an admixture to retard or speed up the hardening time is a good idea?
The team of concrete consultants from NPC Concrete at Margate Quarry come on-site with an understanding of local conditions as well as the best options available for each project.   They also have a definite advantage because they can offer wet batched ready-mix from the Margate plant.  Wet batched concrete is batched in the concrete plant rather than the truck itself and the plant batching brings with it consistent quality and efficiency.  Speedy production for larger projects is also a plus.  The Margate plant is capable of producing up to 80 cubic metres of ready-mix an hour in peak periods.

NPC's Margate plant is backed up by concrete technologists from their Durban NPC Central Materials Lab which carefully oversees product quality at each plant in KZN.  A particular advantage of the Margate plant is its wet batched ready-mix.  With wet batched concrete, the standard deviation can be expected to be much, much lower which means that the materials are more accurately batched and mixed. In the mix-design process one can more accurately target the desired MPa, while reducing wastage.

The South African Ready-Mix Association (SARMA), the national body which represents all the reputable ready-mix companies in southern Africa, has given a platinum plus accreditation score to the NPC Concrete’s plant in Margate.

NPC Concrete Margate Plant Manager Jaco Bezuidenhout says, “This is a very comprehensive audit that covers everything from our approach to worker safety and environmentally responsible procedures to ready-mix product excellence.”  The Platinum Plus achievement marks a steady advancement for the long-established South Coast concrete supplier which earned Gold and Platinum ratings in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
