NPC Opens New Concrete Plant in Phoenix
Editorial
NPC Concrete has recently opened a ready-mix concrete plant in Phoenix as part of their ongoing expansion in the KZN construction market. The plant, which is the seventh such NPC facility in KZN, is well-positioned to serve the region from Umhlanga Rocks in the north to the Durban CBD in the south and inland to Westville.
NPC Concrete Managing Director Avi Bhoora says, “It’s been five years since NPC diversified into Aggregate and Concrete and we are very pleased to announce the opening of our strategically situated Phoenix plant. This plant opening follows the winding down of our successfully completed high volume supply contract to the King Shaka International Airport. With the Phoenix plant as our base, we look forward to serving the Durban area and other communities within practical delivery distance.”
Plant Manager Ravi Ramsaroop adds, “A key advantage for the new Phoenix plant is that it can be assisted and supported during busy periods and on larger projects with personnel, delivery trucks and concrete pumping equipment from NPC’s Sterkspruit/Highway Region and Tinley Manor/North Coast ready-mix plants. This means a much more consistent level of service and dependability for the contractor.”
Also of significance to NPC Concrete customers is the technical back-up provided by NPC’s respected Concrete Technologist Rolf Schutte, whose team oversees quality control at each concrete plant from the Durban NPC Central Materials Lab. Mr. Schutte says, “A satellite laboratory, backed by the main lab, has been set up at Phoenix and a materials technician has been appointed to carry out quality assurance duties. With this laboratory network, NPC Concrete is able to supply a vast range of concrete mixes at its plants and NPC’s concrete technicians will gladly assist customers with their special requirements.”
Including the new Phoenix facility, the network of seven NPC Concrete plants ranges from Tinley Manor in the North to Sterkspruit (Highway) and Umlaas Road in the West and Park Rynie and Margate in the South. The plants are regularly audited by the South African Ready-Mix Association (SARMA) and each of the audited plants has scored either Gold or Platinum in their 2009 audits. Phoenix Plant Manager Ravi Ramsaroop can be reached at 083 272 9031 or 031 500 5727.
