NPC Concrete Plant Doubles Output
Editorial
The Mid-Coast construction industry is receiving a significant boost with the launching of the new NPC Concrete plant in Park Rynie. At approximately 55 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete an hour, the new plant, supported by 200 ton on-site cement silos, is capable of more than twice the output of the previous installation. Support facilities for personnel and equipment have also been upgraded.
Plant Manager Andile Zondi says that some of the highlights of the new facilities include a faster conveyor system which offers quicker discharge in the batching cycle and improved lab facilities, which are key to the quality control functions of the plant. Quality control at each of NPC Concrete’s six ready-mix plants in KZN is actively overseen by NPC Concrete Technologist Rolf Schutte.
The company is taking extra steps to keep their operation environmentally friendly with the installation of a water recycling plant which will enable waste water, which has been used at various stages in the ready-mix making cycle, to be separated from solid ingredients such as stone and sand. Not only will this system make the operation cleaner environmentally, but it will make it possible for the separated ingredients to be re-used. Like each of the other NPC Concrete facilities, the Park Rynie plant has scored highly in the South African Ready-mix Association (SARMA) audit programme which is focussed on responsible management in areas such as human resources and the environment.
NPC Concrete Managing Director Avi Bhoora says that his company’s increased investment in the region will pay dividends for the building industry at both ends of the market. “Our greater output capacity will be good news for the infrastructural projects this region needs, from reservoirs, where the quality and consistent supply of concrete is very important, to new bridges, roadworks, low cost housing development as well as smaller projects.”
NPC Concrete offers pre-delivery site visits to determine the nature and extent of each project. Service from the Park Rynie plant is offered virtually anywhere in the Mid-Coast region as well as inland, including Scottburgh, Umzinto, Umkomaas, Pennington and Umzumbe.
