With 2010 now in full swing and construction activity on the rise, it benefits the contractor to have a local quarry that supplies all of the basic building ingredients.
 
The Margate Quarry, managed and owned by NPC  Aggregate & Concrete, has long been such a streamlined place for builders.  South Coast Regional Manager Clint Kendall says, “We have placed a strong emphasis on quality in both the aggregate and concrete divisions.  All our quarry products, which range from crusher dust to handstone and everything in between, are sized according to SABS standards and our sister quarry in Marburg works in tandem with us to efficiently supply the South Coast market.”
 
For NPC Concrete’s part, Margate Plant Manager Jaco Bezuidenhout says, “A key reason why the Margate plant’s concrete is of such exceptional quality is that it produces wet-batched ready-mix concrete.  This concrete is batched at the plant rather than in the truck and gives a more consistent quality than dry-batched concrete.”
 
The team of concrete consultants from NPC Concrete at Margate Quarry are available to visit building sites to offer advice and recommendations based on their understanding of local conditions as well as the best options available for each project.  Additionally, the local plant is backed up by highly qualified concrete technologists from NPC’s Durban Central Materials Lab which carefully oversees product quality at each plant in KZN.
 
Additionally, the Margate Quarry voluntarily undergoes regular independent quality and environmental audits.  The South African Ready-Mix Association (SARMA), the national body which represents all the reputable ready-mix companies in southern Africa, has most recently given a Platinum Plus accreditation score to the NPC Concrete’s plant in Margate.  On the quarrying side, the Aggregate and Sand Producers Association of South Africa (ASPASA) which monitors environmental and safety issues, most recently gave the Margate Quarry a rating of above 90%, landing them a stellar 5 Shields Award.
